CATEGORIES FOR GHANA NATIONAL GOSPEL

MUSIC AWARDS (2022)

 

❖ Lifetime Achievement Award: This is adjudged by the Board as a Living Legend of Ghanaian Gospel Music whose works must have spanned generations. The

person might be an artiste or a technical person or might have contributed to the growth of the music industry. The person may not have released a song in the
year under review.

❖ Gospel Male Vocalist of the year: This is adjudged by the Board and Academy as the male gospel artiste (solo) with the best vocal delivery on a gospel song
released in the year under review.

❖ Gospel Female Vocalist of the year: This is adjudged by the Board and Academy as the female gospel artiste (solo) with the best vocal delivery on a gospel song
released in the year under review.

❖ Gospel Songwriter of the year: This is adjudged by the Board and Academy as the best written gospel songwriter(s). The lyrics and the music composition must
be original. The song must be released in the year under review.

❖ Gospel Music Video of the year: This is adjudged by the Board and Academy as the most creative and impactful gospel music video released in the year under
review. The song for which the video was produced needs not to be released in the year under review but the video must be released in the year under review.
There should be two awards plaques here, one for the musician and the other for the video director. The awards go to the artiste(s) and the video director.

 ❖ Gospel Music Instrumentalist of the year: This is adjudged by the Board and the academy as the best live instrumental performance on a song released in the

year under review. The song may not have enjoyed huge commercial success but has quality artistic values.

 ❖ Gospel Music Producer of the year: This is adjudged by the Board and Academy as the gospel music producer(s) directly responsible for the recording, mixing and technical production of the most technically creative gospel song in the year under review. The song may not have enjoyed huge commercial success.

❖ Traditional Gospel Song of the year: This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the most popular traditional gospel song released in
the year under review. The song must have a Ghanaian traditional/folkloric rhythm with the lyrics being in one of the Ghanaian languages. The song must
have generated the most excitement.

❖ Gospel Collaboration of the year: This is adjudged by the Board, academy and General Public as the best gospel song released through the collaboration of two

or more artiste(s). The song must have been released and generated the most excitement in the year under review.

❖ Best Worship Song of the year: This is adjudged by the Board Academy and the General Public as the most popular worship song. The lyrics should be that of

adoration/worship, with the rhythm being either slow paced or midtempo. The song must have been released in the year under review and generated the most
excitement.

❖ Best Praise Song of the year: This is adjudged by the Board Academy and the General Public as the most popular praise song. The lyrics should be that of

appreciation/praise, with the rhythm being either fast paced or midtempo.

❖ Best Gospel Song of the year: This is adjudged by the board, Academy and General Public as the most popular gospel song released in the year under review

and generated the most excitement during the year.

❖ Gospel Music Promoter of the year (Radio/TV): This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the Radio/TV gospel music promoter who

did the most work in the promotion of gospel music in the year under review.

Gospel Music Promoter of the year (Online/Blogging): This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the online page/blogger who did

the most work in the promotion of gospel music in the year under review.

Adventist Vibrant Artiste of the year: This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal in the

S.D.A music arena. The artiste must have released a hit song in the year under review.

❖ Gospel Artiste Manager of the year: This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the gospel artiste manager who did the most work by

projecting his/her artiste(s) in the year under review.

❖ International Artiste(s)of the year: This is adjudged by the Board Academy and the General Public as the gospel artiste(s) (non –African) whose music crossed

boarders and made the most impact in Ghana in the year under review

❖ African Artiste(s) of the year: This is adjudged by Board, Academy and the General Public as the gospel artiste(s): (non –Ghanaian, but African) whose

music crossed boarders and made the most impact in Ghana in the year under review.

❖ Urban Artiste of the year: This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal in the urban

gospel music arena. The artiste(s) must have released a hit song in the year under review.

❖ Gospel Male Artiste of the year: This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the gospel male artiste (s) with the highest audience appeal.

He must have released a hit single in the year under review.

❖ Gospel Female Artiste(s) of The Year: This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the gospel female artiste(s) with the highest audience

appeal. She must have released a hit single in year under review.

❖ Gospel Artiste(s) of the year (Diaspora): This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the Ghanaian Gospel Artiste(s) based in the

Diaspora with the highest audience appeal. The artiste(s)must have released a hit single in the year under review.

❖ Gospel Song of the year (Diaspora): This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the most popular gospel song released by a Ghanaian

based in outside Ghana. The song must have the highest audience appeal in the country where the artiste(s) is/are based. The song must be released in the year
under review.

 ❖ Church Choir of the year: This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the church choir with the highest audience appeal. The group

must have featured or had a gospel concert in the year under review. The group may not have released a song in the year under review.

 ❖ Choral Group of the year: This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the Choral Group with the highest audience appeal. The group

must have featured or had a gospel concert in the year under review. The group may not have released a song in the year under review.

 ❖ Gospel New artiste(s) of the year: This is adjudged by Board, Academy and the General Public as the most promising and emerging gospel artiste(s). The

artiste(s) ought to be a relatively new artiste(s) who released a single/EP/Album that gave the artiste(s) a public identify in the year under review.

 ❖ Best Hybrid Gospel Song of the year: This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the hybrid gospel song with most audience appeal.

The song must be either from an artiste(s) not known to be the gospel genre, or a collaboration between a gospel artiste and an artiste not known to be doing
the gospel genre. The song must be released in the year under review.

 ❖ Gospel Uncovered Artiste(s) of the year: This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as an upcoming gospel artiste with promising

prospects. The artiste(s) may not have released a song in the year under review but must be visible at gospel concerts, and Radio/TV programmes.

❖ MUSIGHA Gospel Performance of The Year: This is adjudged by the Musicians Union of Ghana as the gospel artiste(s) who had the most creative and

impactful performance at a gospel concert in the year under review, The gospel artiste(s) must be an active and good standing member of the Musicians Union
of Ghana.

❖ Gospel Artiste(s) of the year: This is adjudged by the Board, Academy and the General Public as the gospel artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and

popularity in the year under review and must be one of the artistes with the highest number of nominations. The artiste(s) must have a hit single in the year
under review
